Hipster heaven for trendy Obs

By Niki Jackson

In a culmination of property development wizardry – Cape Town’s Observatory, affectionately known as Obs, has delivered a lifestyle development that is predicted to add some relief to the city’s high demand for student, investment and first time buyer accommodation in one of its most trendy and well-located suburbs.

While eco-conscious sustainability and contemporary design tick the boxes for today’s finance-savvy academics and emerging young professionals, the appeal does not end there. Add super-fast fibre optic, a private gym, heated roof-top pool, an onsite laundry, plenty of parking, scooter and bicycle bays, lock up storage and state-of-the-art energy efficient, water heating – all in an arty neighbourhood – and you surely have something close to Hipster Heaven.

What’s more, the 314-unit apartment block, called Obs Court, with its starting price of R1.2m and no transfer duty, offers a beacon of hope for the entry-level investor looking for a foothold between the nicely positioned Southern Suburbs and City, areas so popular because of their top schools and medical institutions.

Obs Court has been dubbed a ‘fun place to live’ by developers, FWJK who have recently completed the R250 million Touchstone House in Lower Bree Street and are currently developing the new KPMG Place as a mixed use office, retail and residential offering on Cape Town’s foreshore.

Construction at Obs Court, which is being exclusively marketed by Pam Golding Properties, has already begun with completion set for December 2017.
